appearance of your trees. Left untreated, these problems can eventually lead to wood rot and tree death. Here are a few ways to spot common tree problems in time to call the experts at Advanced Tree Service.
Spider Mites
Spider mites are pests that commonly infiltrate blue spruce and arborvitae trees. Spider mites pierce the tissues of leaves and feed on the plant’s fluids. Look for leaves that have turned yellow, dried up, or dropped off. An infested tree may appear brown in the middle compared with healthy ones.
Root Diseases
Root diseases are responsible for destroying large areas of forests in the Pacific Northwest. Common root diseases include armillaria, annosus, black stain, and Port-Orford-cedar. Conifer root diseases can cause symptoms such as reduced height growth, loss of needles, yellowing of foliage, and the dying of branches.
Trunk Canker
Canker diseases can kill branches or weaken the structure of a tree to the point of breakage and death. Trunk cankers are typically oval in shape, but can vary in size. Your tree may develop a brown or reddish lesion on its trunk or branches that will appear sunken in. Cankers are difficult to control, but not impossible with the right prevention and treatment.
Leaf Scorch
Leaf scorch is common on ornamental trees, such as maple and oak. It is a noninfectious tree condition caused by high temperatures, dry soil, and winds. Leaf scorch begins as a yellowing, and then browning, of the leaves. You can prevent tree scorch with the right environmental conditions and tree care.
