During the month of April most homeowners like to start getting their spring to-do list knocked out. The more you get done in spring the less you need to do during the summer and, the spring weather is a great time to get a lot of those home improvement projects done.
There are more reasons than just aesthetics for keeping your landscaping clean and tidy. In fact, April is National Pest Awareness month, and you may not realize it, but your landscaping has a lot to do with your risk for pests coming into your home.
This is especially true in the springtime because of the extra rain that comes during this season. The extra moisture can attract pests to your yard, which will quickly ruin your summer fun in the sun plans.
Luckily, there are some things that you can do to reduce your home’s vulnerability to pest invasion, and many of those things have to do with your yard and landscaping:
- Keep your lawn cut low. Insects and pests like to hide in your lawn. It is the perfect place for things like mosquitos, gnats, and fleas to flourish. If you keep your lawn cut low, these pests don’t have a place for cover and they are less likely to stick around. Also, keeping your lawn cut low will help you to be able to see items in your grass like food left behind after a barbeque that could be attracting a pile of ants.
- Keep tree branches cut close. Pests like squirrels and woodpeckers like to hang out in trees. If the branches of the tree is very close to your home, these little guys will have much better access to your roof and eaves. While they could gain access without the help of a strategically places tree branch, it is much easier to just use the branch.
- Keep the shrubbery and vegetation around your home cut clean so that it is away from the foundation and siding of your home. Your bushes could have spiders, ants, and termites living in them and they will hide under the shrubs and make their nest gaining access to your home.
Keeping your home clean and tidy inside and outside is a priority for many people, and this is especially true for their landscaping.
